The Plantaholic’s Garden can be found on page 61 in Gardening from a Hammock.
Master Gardener Merle Burston can be found trading and choosing plant seeds in the winter, planting them in her greenhouse early spring, and the working in her garden from May through November. We appreciate not just her sage advice based on her years of experience, but also her love for each individual plant.
“To me, a garden is about life”, says Merle. “I stop in my tracks to look at the new red leaves of the Maple. It’s magic listening to the birds chattering in the trees. It’s magic listening to the birds chattering in the trees. I get so excited when I see the tips of new spring growth poking through the earth.”
Merle Burston was coordinator of the Toronto Master Gardeners. She is also former chair and an enthusiastic member of the Ontario Rock Garden & Hardy Plant Society plus an active volunteer at the Toronto Botanical Garden.
